There We Were and Here We Are
Well, this is us! This is the Russell and the Borden families. But this was a really long time ago :-)
I think this photo was taken in 1991. There are eight kids between our two families now and these three boys are in high school and college today.
I guess dreams take years to shape. Our two families have been loving Africa for a very long time. We have spent many years serving on that beautiful continent. And during those years God was preparing our hearts for the Africa of today.
Africa today is looking at 40 million AIDS orphans by the year 2010. 40 million!
Wild Hope is in Africa to respond to this and to other serious issues of poverty, poor education, lack of resource, and spiritual hunger.
Do we think we are the answer to Africa's troubles?
We're not that presumptuous!
But we know that God is crazy in love with the people of Africa. Their issues are on His mind. So we proudly take our place among the hundreds of organizations, the thousands of individuals who want to give their lives to make a difference.
That's what we're up to.
It's a Wild Hope.
But He's a Wild God.

When I first looked saw that photo I thought "oooh someone else with lots of kids"...then I saw it was mainly adults;-) Wild adults, but adults all the same! I think I saw the words "eight kids" at the same nano-second and it excited me because we have eight kids!
We are also looking for a way to come (with said eight kiddos) to Africa for a month or so in mid 2009 (en route from Mongolia to Romania!!). We have been praying for someone to work with, but doors have been slamming shut (God's blessed us with too many kids! sigh). Then today MamaMonk posted a link to you guys and my heart swelled within me. You ARE all the things we believe in. Your soccer-playing kids strike a chord with my boys who just want to come and play, my older daughters would love to sit with your angel-making ladies and work with them, I just love the fact that we serve the same BIG God, share wild ambitions, acknowledge our inadequacies, know we can make a difference, promote justice, love the poor....we even share the same favourite movies (Invisible Children..and interviews with Bono!!!)
I've posted this on an old post of yours so I'm not sure you'll see it....if God wants to do anything with it, He can make sure you get to read it!!!!!
Bless you guys abundantly
Rachael
I was just thinking.....if you see this and you would like to get in touch, you can contact me through my "intricate simplicity" blog. Then I could send you my email address.
Thanks;-)
